Attendance
At Newton Longville, we believe that good attendance is crucial for children to reach their potential and make the most of the educational opportunities available to them. Every child deserves a stimulating, enjoyable, and high-quality full-time education, regardless of age, aptitude, ability, gender, or cultural background.
Irregular attendance or persistant lateness can disrupt learning, hinder progress, and affect the development of friendships within the school. We expect all children to attend school regularly and promptly, as this is key to fostering a love for learning and achieving high academic standards. The habits pupils build around attendance and punctuality are just like what future employers expect, helping them develop important skills for the workplace. Together with staff, parents, and pupils, we are committed to ensuring everyone understands the importance of consistent attendance (96% or better).
We expect parents to:
- Ensure their child attends every day the school is open except when a statutory reason applies.
- Notify the school as soon as possible when their child has to be unexpectedly absent (e.g. sickness).
- Only request leave of absence in exceptional circumstances and do so in advance.
- Book any medical appointments around the school day where possible.
